Soccer Monster

There is a backyardigans episode where Pablo is a "soccer monster" (he loves to play soccer) and if Uniqua and Tyrone play soccer with him, they will turn into soccer monsters. This is one of Deklan's favorite episodes. Deklan has wanted to play soccer for awhile. So when we moved we signed him up. He has been playing for a month now. Well, he hates it. I shouldn't say it like that. There are parts that he likes. He likes to run, kick the ball and tackle the coach. What he doesn't like is playing soccer. He doesn't like trying to get the ball with a bunch of other kids. He doesn't like when kids pull on his jersey and knock him down. He doesn't like the little boy on his team who calls him a loser. On a side note this boy was really bothering Deklan a couple weeks ago, the little boy said "you are a loser" and Deklan said "no we are all losers"--there is a winning attitude if I ever heard on :)

Yesterday was soccer. Deklan didn't want to go in the first place but I made him go (I know what a bad mom). The first game they played was a game where they line up in 2 lines and the coach calls 2 kids at a time to run after the ball and try to score. When it was Deklan's turn he had to "play" against the only kid on the team that has any skill. The kid pulled on Deklan jersey and they both fell down. Then the kid scored the goal. Then Deklan became a "monster". He was yelling at the kid and crying and sitting on the bench saying he didn't want to play anymore.

Oh how I wish I could say that was the end of it. But sadly there was more. Near the end of class they played a scrimmage. Well, as Deklan had the ball and was going to score a kid from the other team (coincidentally the kid who calls him a loser) stood inside the goal to block the ball. In this class they are not allowed to block at all. Well, this upset Deklan greatly. He went up and pushed the kid and called him a cheater. Then he cried and sat on the bench and said he wasn't playing anymore.

So soccer is over in 3 weeks and we will be finding something else for Deklan to do with his time. Sadly, because of the problems, I don't have any pictures to post. I will try to get one of him in his uniform and post it soon.
