A bald eagle, Mt. Rainier, Lake Washington and 90 degrees

When we were preparing to move, Jonathan's boss sent us a stack of books to read up on Seattle. We didn't read much (who has time to read when you are preparing to move across the country?)

However, one part I did pay close attention to was the weather. The Newcomer's Handbook for moving to and living in Seattle says the average temp for May is 64 degrees NOT 90 degrees. As a matter of fact, no month has an average temp of 90 degrees.
This was one of the best things about moving to Seattle for me. I hate the heat. I hate being overly hot. I hate sweating. I was so happy to move to a temperate climate. No one (well almost no one) has air conditioning. You just don't need it.
So imagine my horror when Saturday's high was 90 degrees.
Rather than stay in the apartment without air conditioning, we packed the boys up and headed to the park. We spent a chunk of the day at Seward Park, which if you look at a map sticks out into Lake Washington.
Deklan spent most of the time in the water (this is his new favorite past time).
Merrick spent most of his time in the shade (he wasn't very fond of the heat).
As we were walking along the trail we saw a bald eagle flying over us. It was funny how excited Jonathan got. This was a big deal for him.
The view of Mt. Rainier from the park was breathtaking. I took several pictures but they don't capture how amazing it really is.
I took this picture from the car later in the day.

So finally pictures of the mountain. It is very beautiful but I am sure much more in person. Where the pictures taken with your new camera? They are really good.

Love the pics! Deklan looks like a west coaster already! I love what you wrote about Merrick staying in the shade because his face matched your sentence exactly- he looks like he's saying "really people, what's the big deal with the mountain and birds, it's hot out here!"
